The two-year project "RESCUE – Radar-based environment detection and person search in extreme situations" is part of the "Innovative Projects/Cooperation Projects" funding program of the Universities of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg and is being carried out at IUAS under the direction of Prof. Dr. Marlene Harter. Project partners are Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, the Ulm Fire Department, and the company Waveye.

The aim of the project is to develop a portable, radar-based system solution for environmental detection and search and rescue in indoor and outdoor fires. This could save lives during firefighting operations by enabling rescue workers to better orient themselves and providing them with faster access to trapped or endangered persons.
