HENSOLDT, a global leader in sensor solutions for defence and security applications, has awarded the 22nd "Argus" research prize to students as part of its cooperation with universities and research institutions. This annual and prestigious award recognizes outstanding theses by young scientists in the fields of high-frequency technology, algorithms, signal processing, artificial intelligence, and information technologies. A jury consisting of university professors and experts from defence and aerospace companies selected the best 24 theses from all applicants and honoured them during the event.

Philip Arthur was awarded for his Master’s thesis titled "Ground-Coupled Metamaterial-Based Antenna Design for Ground-Penetrating Radar" with the third-place prize. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Marlene Harter and M.Eng. Reinhard Echle. Arthurs work introduces an innovative metamaterial-enhanced antenna that improves ground efficiency and demonstrates the potential for advanced subsurface monitoring and analysis.

The award ceremony took place November 4th and 5th, 2025 at the HENSOLDT site in Ulm, where the prize was presented by Dr. Jürgen Bestle (CTO, HENSOLDT Group) and Dr. Guy Kouemou (Group Technology Coordinator, HENSOLDT).

Congratulations to Philip Arthur for this outstanding scientific achievement.
