Representatives of the 53 project partners from industry (OEMs, semiconductor suppliers) and research institutions came together in Vienna/Austria on May 28 and 29, 2024 for the kick-off meeting of the EU project "EdgeAI-Trust". The kick-off event focused on introducing the project partners, coordinating the content and planning.

The new EU project focuses on the development of a domain-independent architecture for decentralized Edge AI. EdgeAI-Trust aims to increase the trustworthiness, reliability, safety, energy efficiency, sustainability and social acceptance of AI solutions. By using cutting-edge technologies to address the challenges related to ensuring trustworthiness, the results of this project will be implemented in three target areas: Automated vehicles, manufacturing and agriculture. The effectiveness of these technologies will be validated through real-life use cases within this project.

Prof. Marlene Harter presented Offenburg University of Applied Sciences' planned contributions to the project, which focuses on the detection and classification of road surfaces using automotive radars. The requirements and specifications for a suitable sensor system and an AI model for processing the acquired data will be investigated and implemented by Offenburg University of Applied Sciences in association with the partners.

The project will run from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2027. The project will be carried out at the Institute of Unmanned Aerial Systems at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and is funded by the Key Digital Technologies Joint Undertaking (KDT-JU) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
